Move Close to Heaven

Why would anyone want to retire in Hawaii?  Because it is as close to heaven as you can get on earth!  No, the streets are not paved of gold. In fact, they may not measure up to the consistency of those found on the mainland.  There are no angels flying around but there is a vast variety of beautiful birds to entertain you while you sit on your lanai with a margarita in your hand.  You leisurely peruse the lava based mountains, gaze at the verdant fauna and spot the rainbow gleaming on the other side of the freshet rainfall brought in by the trade winds.  Your mind wanders to the golf you will be playing tomorrow, the chorale presentation this evening and the dance lessons, bridge group and water sports in which you regularly participate.

Now on Kauai, the Garden Island, life is much slower paced.  The top speed you will experience driving is controlled by the maximum 50 mph speed limit and much of it is 25 mph.  The bounteous sun and cool breezes just naturally instill a sense of relaxation to your lifestyle.  Of course, things get done but the hectic pace you have been living may require some major changes in your mental and emotional make-up to survive in “heaven”.  There is modernity here:  Wal Mart, Costco, McDonald’s, helicopters, cruise ships, fine restaurants, etc.  Yes, we have an airport servicing major airlines to permit one to get in and out.  But there are simpler things also like the farmer’s markets, visits to the waterfalls or the Grand Canyon of Kauai, consistent views of the ocean in all its grandeur, and Hawaiian fish delicacies such as Ono, Monchong, Ahi and Opah(moonfish) for dinner.  Why not put a slice of fresh pineapple on the plate too!

What’s holding you back?  Come retire with us and see if you can survive the comfort and ease of Kauai.
